This year for our RKS family vacation we decided to go to Kona, Hawaii! Yes, The BIG island. I love this island for so many reasons. The volcanic rock, Waipio Valley , star gazing at the Mauna Kea Summit! I had not been to this island since I was a sophomore in high school and Tai had never been so it was fun to experience it with him and little Maj! We stayed at a time share on the Mauna Kea properties and it was absolutely gorgeous. Mom and Dad hooked us up! I always say that Hawaii is my favorite vacation spot in the world and every time I go I'm reminded why. There are a few things more beautiful and relaxing than the beautiful Islands of Hawaii. The Ono grinds (island slang for delicious food...my husband taught me...I'm basically local now), laid back vibes, world class beaches and breathtaking sunsets? I mean seriously, does it get better?
We did some fun day trips to the black sand beach, the boys went on a fishing expedition, attended the local church and saw the Kona Temple, but we spent majority of the week kicking it pool/beachside. The only reason we needed to leave was to get snow cones and plate lunch. So Hawaiian of us, I know. There was a delicious shaved ice truck that was close to us that we may or may not have visited every day, sometimes twice a day. It was just that good.
We loved Kohala burger and our favorite local restaurant, Merrimans which was just as good as we remembered.
It was my kind of vacay. No where to be, nothing to do, just enjoying each others company in the most beautiful place in the world.
